It finally happened...
« on: May 29, 2010, 07:21:00 PM »
Today at 4:07pm in Stockbridge, Ga. with 305,231 miles on the clock. The motor in the bird died.   :what:Well, it might as well be dead. It has a really bad knock, and squeal coming bottom end of the motor.  A moment of silence for such an outstanding motor....  :(   :'(

Now that I have the time( not the money, lol),  :hrmm: I will have more than enough time to build a new motor the way I want.   >:D  :w00t:

...and I've got it recorded too...it looks like on the first dyno run, there's a puff of smoke right before the rev limiter and then it pours smoke out the tailpipes on the deceleration.  You can hear it's not running quite right before the pull.  I got a glipse of the tailpipe on the 2nd pull too, and there's more smoke coming out.  I was at the front of the car on the 3rd pull and you can really hear that the motor isn't right when you listen closely to the recording.  None of this was obvious at the time, but the tape really shows what happened...

It was knocking VERY badly when we got to Stockbridge.  I pulled into WalMart to wait for Cliff and I could hear how bad the motor sounded from 50 yds away...

RIP to the L98....good luck with v2.0!

300K+!!  Wow!  That engine deserves a head stone and a 21 gun salute.  I thought my truck had alot of miles on it.  200K and still running.

No biggie. As soon as I rejoin the work force, I will be getting with you, to build a monster. (I hope).
