Speed Laps at Atlanta Motor Speedway
« on: October 12, 2010, 01:49:30 PM »
We are gauging interest from car enthusiasts about hosting a "Speed Laps" event on the Atlanta Motor Speedway 1.5 mile oval speedway and the 2.5 mile road course.

We would create three different groups:  Advanced (up to 100 mph);  Intermediate (up to 80 mph);  Rookie (up to 70 mph)

The groups would be separated by each vehicles safety aspects (i.e. safety harness, roll bars, fire extinguisher, etc.).

The day would give each group three (3) timed sessions on the track.  Drivers can enter and exit the garage/paddock area throughout the session to make adjustments, rest, etc.

Individuals would be able to lease garage space or just pit on the outside of the garages.

Is there any interest in this type of an event?

Answer here or contact taustad@atlantamotorspeedway.com

Thanks!

That sounds like a lot of fun!  As long as it doesn't break the bank, I'd be interested!

What would qualify you as advanced, intermediate, or rookie. I wouldnt do it unless I could go at least 125. 100mph isnt fast, especially on the oval race track. And of course cost is a huge factor.

^^ What he said. If I would only qualify for the 70-80, I would pass... Those are highway speeds around here. Cost also matters. More details please!
