another Walter Racecraft lsx thirdgen!
« on: April 26, 2011, 10:59:42 PM »
it's time for Jack's car to get some lovin.  the wee-oh-five/700r4 gave up the ghost about a year ago.  jack took his time to figure out a solid solution.  we spent countless nights talking about different combos, whether to go with a gen I sbc with an upgraded tpi setup, or to go gen III.

well, it just so happens that we found a 5.3 about 9 months ago or so on craigslist.  through some horse trading, the 5.3 ended up being mine.  after some more horsetrading, jack ended up with it.  it's a stock 5.3 shortblock, and someone along the lines fitted it with some 317 heads.  so it's down on compression from the get go, but has a bit better flow.  i'd imagine the hp numbers are probably simliar to stock.

a long time (felt like an eternity) elapsed before we started doing anything.  jack slowly acquired pieces parts (and still is, thanks brian!).  then last week, we found a big piece to the puzzle.  a 4l60e that was working when pulled.

at the moment, i only have a handful of pictures, but i'll post what i have.  i will be sure to post up as many pictures as i can get of this deal.  jack is really having a blast doing this too.

You work QUICK Matt!  Kyle should pull his car in there too and ya'll can just get a little assembly line going :D

I'm actually impressed!  I would love to have a '92 Z28 with an LSX swap one of these days....but it'll never happen unless I get rid of my current Z...only one toy allowed at a time ;)

Just curious, what are the goals for this swap.  Another mid to high 10 sec. car like yours?  Or, a 12 or 13 sec. car or even 11 sec. for that matter?

this one's goal is 13.99 at the moment.  it's a bone stock 5.3 with 6.0 heads, stock converter, and it'll have a set of 3.73's.  he has bigger plans later, but this just gets the car setup for lsx engines

don't let the pictures fool you...we still have a LONG ways to go.  i have to integrate my old efi harness into his car still, as well as get the fuel system up to par for this engine, exhaust, gears etc.

pulled the engine out this morning to get some more stuff done.  notched the k-member for ample oil pan clearance.  i was going to just grind it a bit, but decided it'd be better to notch it.  tomorrow we'll be laying the wiring in the engine bay.  get the fuel system stuff all done early next week and maybe fire it up soon after that :D

you check on ls1 tech?  i can find you one if you're ready to buy one ;)

got a decent amount done today.  got the engine/trans reinstalled, and got the wiring harness installed.  this harness was from my car when i had efi so it was pretty much already modded.  i had to mod his engine bay harness, but that only took about 20 mins or so.  exhaust is back on, and we put the battery in and have power in the car again for the first time in nearly 2 years.  we're at a stand still till we get some more stuff for the fuel system in.  not too bad for a days work though.

here's a picture of the wiring and stuff.  we'll make it cleaner as we go

Im gonna wait til I get a few more things done to the car unless someone makes a serious offer on what I've got. If I had the drivetrain sold it'd be a no-brainer, but as it is. it may wait.
